Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said that the people of the state were vying for change, adding that the 2014 Lok Sabha election results showed that the people favour her party.

"The results of the Lok Sabha elections came out in favour of the PDP. Today, the people of Jammu and Kashmir want change. They want employment and the availability of basic facilities. I am fully confident that the people of the state who want change will vote for us," Mufti said.

Mufti further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of taking a communal stand in the state.

"Today there is challenge for people of Jammu and Kashmir. Here, the BJP is going on a big communal agenda. It wants to create division within the Muslim community as well. This will affect the whole of India, home to around 20 crore Muslims," she said.

"PDP leader Mufti Mohammad sahab is only the person who can give everything to the people of Jammu and Kashmir," she added.

The legislative assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will take place in five-phases – on November 25, December 2, December 9, December 14 and December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23.

The term of the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly expires on January 19 next year.
