One year after unruly mobs molested women at Bengaluru’s MG Road and Brigade Road on New Year’s Eve, the city police ensured that no untoward incident was repeated while bringing in 2018.

According to a Bangalore Mirror report, along with 15,000 police personnel, the city had also set up CCTV cameras and drones to ensure molesters and sexual predators didn’t get away with their actions.

In addition, while bars and restaurants were open till late, bar hopping was not allowed post 2 am.

While no case was reported, the scars of 2017 New Year’s Eve is still fresh in the mind of that city. At the time 1,600 police officers were deployed to manage over 60,000 people. This technically means 1 police officer for fewer than 40 people.

In addition to the entire city police force, men from reserve battalions were also deployed on the city streets to maintain law and order during New Year's Eve celebrations.

However, none of these arrangements were of any help to the women who became easy targets for drunk hooligans, forcing some of them to literally take off their heeled shoes and run for help. Being terribly outnumbered on the streets surrounded by thousands of revellers, the cops could intervene only in certain situations depending on how bad it was.

Four men were eventually arrested. The police official did not elaborate on why the other two men were arrested. All face charges of sexual harassment and assault.

The video sparked outrage because it showed a man dismounting from a scooter to grab the woman and drag her towards the vehicle, despite her struggles. The other man on the scooter briefly joined the scuffle as bystanders watched.
