The dengue menace is far from getting over in the Pink City. After having claimed several lives in and around the state capital, the dengue sting has got even more threatening.
A 30-year-old woman died. She was suffering from dengue fever for the past few days. She died at a private hospital of the city on Wednesday.
Another victim from Amber area has been reported to be in a critical condition and is going under treatment at the same hospital.
Meanwhile, the number of patients at city’s government hospitals is increasing every passing day.
The figure has almost doubled in the past few days. Further, the medical and health department and the municipal corporation have only added to the woes of the people in the city.
Failing completely against the deadly disease, the departments, which are otherwise meant for people’s welfare, are not standing up to the challenge. But, the civic officials feel otherwise.
“We have been carrying out extensive programmes for making people aware of the disease. We have sprayed insecticides in most parts, especially in dengue-prone areas of the city. We have also been following the guidelines of the health department as well as the health ministry,” said a municipal official, requesting anonymity.
According to unconfirmed reports, as many as 1,600 patients of dengue are reported under treatment at several hospitals across the city.
The number is likely to go further as the day temperature is still on the hotter side, which is perfect for mosquito breeding.
