Later clashes ensued between the protestors and security forces prompting the later to lob smoke shells and open fire. Dozens of people were injured and were shifted to hospital where Shakeel succumbed. Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani and moderate leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq were detained when they defied house detention and tried to lead a march to Eidgah. "Those killed by bullets and pellets were not out to buy toffees, milk". This statement ( buy Mehbooba Mufti) is meant to justify the killings of the innocent civilians at the hands of government force.
This also exposed the ruling regime's anti Kashmir, inhuman and revenge attitude towards people", said Mirwaiz. On the other side the Jammu and Kashmir police have appealed the people to stay away from processions "to avoid loss of life or injury".

"It has been observed that militants make their presence in public protests and on many occasions resort to hurling of grenades and firing. In one such incident in Pulwama on August 24, 17 police/security force personnel got injured and stand hospitalized.

Similarly such incidents have taken place in recent past at DH, Pora, Kulgam and Shopian also", said a police spokesman Police said the security forces have exercised maximum restraint and not retaliated to avoid civilian casualties.
