Even as the University of Mumbai has kicked off the teacher training for the on-screen evaluation process, experts are estimating a delay of over a month in declaring the results as the University is yet to appoint a private agency for the process.

All teachers from colleges registered on the university’s affiliation portal were asked to attend the training which began on Monday at various university-affiliated colleges. Even those teachers who have never evaluated papers in the past and are appointed on a contractual basis were asked to attend the training. “We have called all the teachers from colleges who have registered themselves on the affiliation portal for the training. Teachers who have the requisite experience and are appointed by the colleges to work full-time would be given the actual evaluation work,” said MA Khan, Registrar, University of Mumbai.

The on-screen evaluation process has been marred by several delays as the university failed to appoint an agency for the third time on Saturday. The next attempt at fixing an agent would take place on April 27. Teachers said that with the delays, results are more likely to be postpone. “Students are supposed to get their results within 45 days after their exams. But the university seems to be taking over a month to just kickstart the process, which would delay the process,” said a teacher from a college in the eastern suburbs.

Boon or bane?

This year, the university has decided to evaluate all answersheets (over 19 lakh) through the on-screen evaluation process

Each teacher would have to roughly evaluate around 30 papers every day to complete the process in 20 days as planned by the university
