On February 10, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will create history as he becomes first-ever Indian Prime Minister to visit Palestine.

The announcement of the Palestine visit comes at a time when Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu is visiting India. The news is seen as a balancing act by India in the region.

It should be noted that India had opposed the UN resolution moved by the US in support of making Jerusalem as Israeli capital.

Even though the Israeli Prime Minister has said that ‘one vote can’t change the dynamics of India-Israel’ relationship, tel Aviv would be keely watching the Palestine visit by PM Modi.

According to a Times of India report, PM Modi is likely to travel to Ramallah in a chopper from Amman in Jordan.  The Palestinians regard the West Bank city of Ramallah as their capital. The city is just 8 km away from Jerusalem.

Last year, in the month of May, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas had visited India. Abbas had held a detailed discussion with PM Modi on a wide range of issues, with India and Palestine signing five important agreements in the spheres of health, IT, agriculture and youth affairs.
