On a day high on faux pas from the BJP, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to mock the two Amits of BJP – Shah and Malviya.

It all started when an eager Amit Malviya tweeted the dates of the Karnataka elections roughly half an hour before the Election Commission of India announced the poll schedule.

Malviya wrote on Twitter, before deleting the tweet: “Karnataka will vote on 12 May 2018, counting on 18 May 2018.” Half an hour later, the Election Commission announced that the state will vote on May 12th, while the counting will be on May 15th. Malviya’s tweet had got half the information right. When asked about Malviya’s revelations, Chief Election Commission OP Rawat said that it was possible that ‘certain things maybe have leaked’, adding that it will be ‘investigated’.

A BJP-delegation led by union minister MA Naqvi met the EC to discuss the allegations. Speaking to the media, Naqvi played down the allegations stating that Malviya had gotten information from at TV channel.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah, in a rare goof-up appeared to confuse BJP’s chief ministerial candidate  Yeddyruppa with Congress Chief minister Siddaramaiah. In a video shared by the Karnataka Congress handle and Rahul Gandhi, Amit Shah can be heard calling the ‘Yeddyruppa government the number 1 corrupt government’. A gleeful Karnataka Congress handle tweeted: “The Truth can never be Suppressed. Even Amit Shah agrees that Yeddyurappa led the Most Corrupt Government ever.”

Picking up from the aforementioned two incidents Rahul Gandhi joked on Twitter that since the ‘BJP IT cell had announced Karnataka elections’, it was time to give a sneak preview of Congress’ ‘top-secret-campaign video’.

Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter: “Now that the BJP IT cell has announced Karnataka elections, time for a sneak preview of our top-secret campaign video! Gifted to us by the BJP President, our campaign in Karnataka is off to a fabulous start. He says Yeddyurappa ran the most corrupt Govt ever... True.”

While the Congress President’s social media game can be hit-and-miss, even his harshest critics would be hard-pressed to deny that he did manage to kill two birds with one tweet.

BJP's IT cell chief Amit Malviya  tweeted the date of the Karnataka Assembly polls before the Election Commission announced it, prompting the panel to describe the leak as a "very serious issue" that merited a probe and "stringent action".

Malviya, however, tweeted that he had only quoted a news channel. His tweet came when Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat was addressing a press conference to announce the schedule for Karnataka polls but had not announced the date.
