Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday said Kashmir issue is a political problem that should be resolved politically and his party would not rest till a solution is reached. "The issue of J&K is political. It is important to address it politically. We will stand firm on our endeavour to resolve the issue and National Conference will not rest untill then," Omar said while addressing a public meeting at Alusa village in north Kashmir's Bandipora Assembly constituency.
Bandipora assembly seat goes to polls in the first phase of state elections on November 25. Calling on the people to give a decisive mandate to his party, Omar said the electorate of Jammu and Kashmir need to "get rid of the coalitions by voting a single party to power for the prosperity of the state". "We have seen coalition governments for the last 12 years and how it is against the interests of the state. Give mandate to a single party like the old times. If that party then does not fulfill its responsibility, throw it away in the next elections but end this coalition era," Omar said.
Omar said with his party being in a coalition with the Congress for the last six years, he had to put his chair at "stake" for bridging the gap between the government and people by creating new administrative units through the state. "Some people want to take credit of the new administrative units. But God is a witness that had I not put my chair at stake, there would have been no such units," he said.
Dubbing the PDP as "a party of thieves", Omar, without naming anyone, alleged that one of the Opposition party's candidates in Srinagar was a "rice thief" while another one in Baramulla was a "urea thief". "They have added thieves to their party. Whoever has a case against him, you will find him in PDP," Omar said. He said the PDP accused him of murdering his party activist Haji Mohammad Yousuf, "but the party gave mandate to the same police officer under whose custody Yousuf died.
Omar said the NC does not believe in making hollow promises to the people like Peoples Democratic Party. "We made a promise to bring back our youths who had crossed the Line of Control (LoC). This government opened channels for their comeback and till now more than 350 such youths have returned to the state," he said. Omar urged the people to vote for his party's candidate, Mohammad Abdullah Wani, from the constituency in the coming state elections. "PDP MLAs stayed outside the assembly most of the time, keep them outside only by voting in favour of the NC candidate. Only NC can ensure the development of your area and the state," he said.
