Omar Abdullah hopes Narendra Modi announces relief package during Srinagar visit

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed the hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would announce the relief package of Rs. 44,000 crores as demanded by the state government for flood victims during his visit to Srinagar tomorrow.

When asked whether he is expecting any package from the Centre during Prime Minister Modi's visit, Omar said: "Obviously, we have submitted a package of Rs. 44,000 crores for the relief of the flood-affected people. We hope that if the Prime Minister is coming on Diwali, this package will be accepted."

"He says he is coming to express solidarity with the flood-affected people of Jammu and Kashmir. So, I hope that his visit means that the package is going to be accepted and announced," he added.

Showing a special gesture towards the flood-hit people of the state, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will travel to Srinagar on the occasion of Diwali tomorrow and spend some time with them.

Prime Minister Modi, who is expected to review the facilities, relief and rehabilitation works with Jammu and Kashmir Governor N. N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, had earlier tweeted about his visit to Srianagar.

"Will be in Srinagar on Diwali, 23rd October & will spend the day with our sisters & brothers affected by the unfortunate floods," he tweeted earlier.
