An old couple were murdered by unidentified persons allegedly for practicing witchcraft at Rai village in Khunti district, a senior police officer said on Sunday.

The victim couple Sohan Pahan (65 yrs) and his wife Langi Devi (60) were sleeping late last night when unidentified miscreants barged into their home and fatally attack Sohan with sharp weapons, Superintendent of Police, Anish Gupta said.

After killing Sohan, the miscreants dragged Langi to the courtyard and murdered her. The incident seemed to be related to suspicions of witchcraft practised by the couple, Gupta said adding that further investigation was on. Police detained three persons — Bajo Purty, Manda Pahan and his wife Biran Sanga — in this connection.
