Odd-even formula: AAP volunteers to help implementation within framework of law

 Aam Aadmi Party volunteers will help in "implementing" Delhi government's odd-even scheme but will work within the "framework of law," the party said on Monday, a day after Delhi police chief warned against any form of "vigilantism".

"Yes, our volunteers will be there, but will work within the framework of law. They will be there in every area and help in implementing the scheme," Ashutosh said. Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi had on Sunday warned AAP volunteers against any form of "vigilantism" and said they should "assist" and "act as told" while the force enforces the odd-even scheme of restricting plying of private cars from January 1 to check pollution.
AAP which is often at odds with Bassi, said it did not find anything offensive in the message from the Delhi police chief.

Ashtuosh also talked about the lack of necessary "strength" of the Delhi Police. "Various committees have recommended to increase the strength of Delhi Police by double as around 30 per cent of the cops are deployed in security duty. The Centre should look into the matter," the AAP leader added. The scheme, set to roll out from January 1 for 15 days, has been proposed to curb pollution in the national capital by restricting movement of private vehicles based on their registration numbers.
