Endorsing late Gopinath Munde’s daughter Pankaja, Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah has appealed the OBCs in Maharashtra to support her and stand by her in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. Shah was speaking at the campaign rally at Bhagwangad in Maharashtra on Friday.

Paying glowing tribute to Gopinath Munde, Shah said that the decision to give him the Union Rural Development ministry was well thought out. “There are only two ministries that work towards giving justice to the poor- Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. Modiji knew if there was one person who cared for the poor, it was Gopinathji. And hence he gave those ministries to him,” Shah said.

He also reminded the crowd that it was the BJP that had made an OBC the Prime Minister. As the crowd continued to raise slogans in Pankaja’s name, Shah responded, “We know what’s on the minds of the people of Maharashtra.”

Pankaja used the platform to assert her leadership in the Munde family and also launched a veiled attack on her cousin Dhananjay who broke away to join the Nationalist Congress Party.

"The people are with me and this is my real strength. Till date, whatever Mundeji did, was for the people and not for his own personal gains and I will fulfill his dreams."

She went on to add, "My fight is not with any political party or with any small leader. Some people said make Pankaja the face, but I am already the face."

She said she would thank Modi for making her father a Minster by bringing the BJP government to power in the state.
