Two persons, including a nurse, suffered serious burn injuries after two unidentified bike-borne assailants threw acid on them, police said on Wednesday.
50-year-old Vijayakumari, a nurse at a government primary health centre in Namakkal, took lift from her friend on a motorbike on Tuesday night, Superintendent of Police Senthilkumar said. Upon reaching her quarters, the assailants threw acid on them and fled from the scene. Vijayakumari sustained burns on both eyes. Her friend suffered burn injuries on a shoulder, police said.
They were rushed to a Government hospital by the local people. The motive behind the attack is unknown, he said, adding special teams have been formed to nab the culprits, Senthilkumar said.
