DMK working president M K Stalin said on Thursday the Tamil Nadu government owes an explanation on the recent death of a software engineer in a mishap in the city.

He was speaking to reporters here after meeting the bereaved parents of Raghupathy, who died on November 25 after falling off his bike on allegedly hitting a wooden structure erected for MGR Centenary Celebrations and run over by a heavy vehicle.

"The government should take responsibility and provide proper explanation on the matter," Stalin said.

Hailing the Madras High Court order directing removal of all banners in the city which caused inconvenience to the public, the DMK leader said even if permission was granted, the practice should be avoided.

The ruling party has put up out over 1,000 banners across the city, without valid permission, he alleged.

A DMK MLA had on November 27 moved the High Court against erection of hoardings, arches and flex boards on roads for the centenary celebrations of late AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran here, alleging that they posed a safety hazard.

Stalin further said he had instructed his party workers not to erect cutouts or banners during his visits to their area, immediately after taking over as the working president of the party.
