On Saturday, PM Modi slammed Mamata Banerjee over her comments about the NRC. He also assured people that no citizen of India will have to leave the country.

Speaking to ANI, PM Modi said: “Those who have lost faith in themselves, fear loss of popular support and lack faith in our institutions can use words like ‘civil war’, ‘blood bath’ and ‘Desh Ke Tukde Tukde.’ Evidently, they are disconnected from the pulse of the nation.”
He added: “I want to assure the people that no citizen of India will have to leave the country. As per the due process, all possible opportunities will be given to get their concerns addressed.”

He also spoke about job growth stating that 1 crore jobs were created in the last year. On lynching he said that every single incident was deeply unfortunate and it everyone ought to rise above politics to ensure unity and peace in our society.

On the Opposition’s charge that he was ‘silent over incidents of crime against women and lynching, he said: “My party and I have spoken in clear words, on multiple occasions against such actions and such a mindset. It is all on record.”

On Rahul Gandhi’s jibe that GST was Gabbar Singh Tax, PM said: “The Congress President tried his best to provoke people against GST during Gujarat elections, why did the people reject him?”

Finally, when questioned about BJP maltreating allies, PM Modi said: “Two events of the recent past will answer your question- the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha and the election for the Deputy Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha. Outcome of these events should indicate which coalition is intact and which is falling apart. Infact, we got support even from those parties which are not our allies. BJP has consistently expanded base over recent years among people and welcomed more allies to NDA.”

On the Mahagatbandhan, he said: “The Mahagathbandhan is about dynasties, not about development. The only question is whether they will break up before the election or after!”

Speaking about caste-based reservations, PM Modi said: “Reservation is here to stay. Let there be no doubt about it.”

PM Modi’s comments come on a day when Amit Shah attacked Mamata Banerejee over her stand on the NRC in Kolkata. Attacking Banerjee in her backyard, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president, who addressed a rally in Kolkata, accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of "patronising" infiltration from Bangladesh and corruption in West Bengal and gave a call for uprooting the TMC government.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had slammed Assam's draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) and said who is the BJP to decide who is Indian or not. Banerjee tore into the ruling party over the mob lynchings and attacks on Dalits too and said isolating minorities and underprivileged communities will lead to civil war and bloodbath.

She said the isolation of communities by BJP calls for a change in the country. "India needs change in 2019 for betterment of the country. The draft NRC released on Monday left out a total of 40.07 lakh people triggering a row over their future," said Mamata, adding: "I am surprised to see that even the family of Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, our ex-president, is not listed in NRC. What more can I say. There is civil unrest already as section 144 has been imposed in most districts of Assam."

"The BJP is trying to divide and rule. What is going on in Assam? It is not only the Bengalis but Hindus, Bengalis, Biharis, Rajasthani that are affected. More than 40 lakh who voted, because of whom the ruling party came to power are suddenly not citizens any more," Banerjee said.
