After Cabinet approval to linking driving licence with Aadhaar card, the government plans to have Aadhaar-based biometric access for flyers at all airports.

According to a Times of India report, IT major Wipro has been asked to develop a blueprint of the plan to be submitted by early May.

Once in place, airports will verify passenger identity for domestic travel through their thumb prints. The decision was taken at a recent meeting of various airport operators and airlines with aviation minister Jayant Sinha and aviation secretary RN Choubey. Earlier the plan was to link Aadhaar numbers with travel booking and then enable biometric access.

Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Guruprasad Mohapatra, told the daily, "It was felt a joint system be developed that can be replicated by all airports. Wipro has been asked to develop a concept note in this regard after consulting all stakeholders, including the JV airport operators. We are seeing what all airport processes can be made e-enabled."

Mohapatra also went on add that it was an effort to ensure seamless and effortless travel experience at airports.
