On August 15, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the nation from the historic Red Fort during his 72nd Independence Day speech, the event will be live-streamed on Google.

The decision was taken by the Prasar Bharti in order to increase the visibility of the event. According to a report by ‘The Hindu’, the internet search giant had made similar arrangements for US President Donald Trump’s inaugural address in January.

‘Doordarshan is usually associated with nostalgia. So by increasing the digital presence we are making younger generation aware of Doordarshan who have never seen an era when there were only two or three channels,’ Prasar Bharti CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
