Even as the FTII row is showing no signs of subsiding, central government may have attracted a fresh controversy. Senior BJP leader and Gujarati actor Naresh Kanodia has been invited to be a jury member to select India's official entry to the Oscars, reports a leading tabloid.

Accordingly to the report,  Kanodia has been approached by the Film Federation of India (FFI) to be the part of the jury.

Kanodia was elected from Karjan constituency of Central Gujarat in 2002, but lost the seat in 2007.

Speaking to Mirror, Kanodia said that his selection is purely based on his merit and it has nothing to do with BJP or PM Modi backing him.

The report also says that when FFI President JP Chowksey was contacted, he was unaware of the Kanodia episode. However, the president called back and reportedly said not to link FTII controversy with Kanokia.

The President also told the tabloid that they have invited people like Amir Khan, Jabbar Patel, who are yet to revert back/

Kanodia has worked in-over 65 films in Gujarati movies and have given few blockbusters too.

The committee will take the decision on sending film to Oscar after watching Hindi and regional entries in Hyderabad.
