In order to keep terror attacks at bay, the Central government is planning a unified security command to safeguard all airports and related infrastructure and passengers, similar to what is followed in the US and several other countries.

"Unified security architecture is a policy initiative that we have embarked on," said Jayant Sinha, civil aviation minister of state, during a summit organised by the IMC chamber of commerce and industry in Mumbai on Tuesday.

At present, the security is mainly airport specific.

The government is presently working with all stakeholders, including the CISF, BCAS, Home ministry, CRPF, among others, for drawing the blueprint and implementation of the unified command.

According to ministry officials, the CISF will head the unified command, as it already handles most of the civil aviation airports in the country.
