The Women's Wing of All India Muslim Personal Law Board met on Sunday to protest against the Triple Talaq Bill currently in the Rajya Sabha, saying that the government has no right to interfere in reforms of a community.

The meet was attended by member representatives of women organisations from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bihar, West Bengal, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerela, Madhya Pradesh and New Delhi.

Dr Asma Zehra, member of the board, said, "It is not the job of the government to interfere into the reform matters of any community, instead they should facilitate educational & economic upliftment of the community."

"There is continuous attempts to break family setup and social structure and disintegrate homes and make women more vulnerable to exploitation. Women are safe and protected in family system and personal laws," she added.

The AIMPLB has setup a Muslim Women Help Line Centre for Muslim women to solve marital family disputes and avoid going to court.

Fatima Muzaffar, another member who was present at the protest, said, "The government is interfering in the fundamental rights of minorities, guaranteed in the constitution. As any other religious group, Muslim religious group should have right to religious freedom." "It is our duty as a community to make people aware of their rights and protect the same. We should not allow the government to interfere in our personal matters," she added.

The instant triple talaq has been declared illegal by the Supreme Court. A bill providing for imprisonment for husbands in such cases is pending before the Parliament.
