The Supreme Court on Tuesday while hearing the review petition filed by Attorney General said that they were not against the SC/ST Act.

As per news updates, the apex court, while conducting an open hearing of the case said that the main reason behind their amendment of the law by introducing new safeguards was to ensure that innocents were not punished. However, the court said that they will not stay its order on the Act and have called to hear the matter in the 10 days.

The apex court, however, clarified that a preliminary inquiry was not required for compensating victims as other offences were also involved,

The apex court also said that they were not interested in listening to a review petition. "Most likely, people who protested did not even read our judgment," the court added.

The top court also clarified that compensation could be remitted immediately, and offences if any could be registered immediately under other acts, though complaints filed under SC/ST would take place only after review from a Superior officer

Earlier, Home Minister Rajnath while addressing the Bharat Bandh that India witnessed on Monday said, "We wanted to file the review petition as soon as the Supreme Court made its judgement. We did it in six working days, and the SC will hear our petition later in the day. We strengthened the SC/ST Act once we came to power. It is wrong to say that we diluted it. We have also sent an advisory to all states to maintain peace. I appeal to all political parties to maintain peace in the state," he said.

BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday lashed out at the Congress for politicizing the Bharat Bandh and blaming the BJP for the mistreatment of Dalits, claiming that they had never done anything either for the Dalits or for Dr Babhasaheb Ambedkar.

In a series of tweets, the BJP President showcased his party’s work towards the betterment of Dalits. “At every juncture, the BJP has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the Dalit community. The Modi Government’s commitment to fulfilling Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision is unwavering. All the efforts of the Government are aimed at transforming the lives of Dalits,” he said.

He said that the Centre had done all in its power to file the review petition before the Supreme Court to protect the rights of Dalits. Shah’s statement comes soon after Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke in the Lok Sabha to highlight the work done by the Centre to better the lives of people from the Dalit community.
