Even as the Centre is toying with the idea of drafting a law to tackle mob lynching, in yet another incident, a man from Haryana was lynched to death by a mob late on Friday night on the suspicion of being a cow smuggler in Rajasthan's Alwar district.

The incident took place near Lalwandi village. The deceased has been identified as Akbar alias Rakbar, 28, a resident of Kolgaon village, Nuh district in Haryana.

According to police, Rakbar was accompanied by another person and they were in possession of two cows. The two were on their way to Haryana on foot when they were attacked. The police has arrested two persons.

The incident comes just a year after the Pehlu Khan lynching incident that had taken place in Alwar.

Condemning the lynching incident, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje tweeted: "I have told the home minister to immediately conduct an investigation and ensure that the guilty are punished."

To curb the spread of fake news and rumour mongering via WhatsApp, the social media giant on Friday declared that users in India would be able to send only five forwards at a given time. WhatsApp had faced flak after there were incidents of lynching across the country due to the spread of false rumours of child lifters being circulated on WhatsApp.

Senior officials from the Rajasthan police rushed to the spot and sent Rakbar's body for post-mortem. The two cows were sent to a cow shelter. "We got a call around 12.50 am that two persons who were in possessions of two cows were being attacked by a crowd. We took the injured to the hospital. On the way he told us that his name was Akbar and he was from Haryana. The person accompanying him managed to escape from the mob. Rakbar was declared dead by the doctors when we reached the hospital," said Anil Beniwal, ASP Alwar. "We are trying to identify the attackers and are also trying to look for the man who accompanied Rakbar," Beniwal added.

Rakbar's father Suleman said that his son had left home in the morning to buy goats. "He was walking when the mob killed him. There was no talk of buying cows," he said.

The police have registered a case and arrested Dharmendra Yadav and Paramjeet Singh Sardar. "The police teams, FSL teams and dog squads have been dispatched to the location for investigation," said IG Hemant Priyadarshi.

Members of the local Mev community said that they would not take Rakbar's body till all the accused were arrested. Local Mev leader Sher Mohammad has alleged that the government was not taking any action against rowdy lynchers. "We will stage a protest. We will ensure that the issue is raised in Parliament," he said.
