India’s smallest state will see BJP and Congress faceoff in a post-Parrikar moment in Goa politics on April 23.

 The North Goa Lok Sabha Constituency which had 515,441 voters last time consists of the following assembly segments - Mandrem, Pernem (SC), Bicholim, Tivim, Mapusa, Siolim, Saligao, Calangute, Porvorim, Aldona, Panaji, Taleigao, St. Cruz, St. Andre, Cumbarjua, Mayem, Sanquelim, Poriem, Valpoi, Priol.

The complete list of candidates is -

 

 

1              GIRISH RAYA CHODANKAR           Indian National Congress

2              SHRIPAD YESSO NAIK     Bharatiya Janata Party

3              AMIT ATMARAM KORGAONKAR Republican Party of India (Kamble)

4              DATTATRAYA PADGAONKAR       Aam Aadmi Party

5              AISHWARYA ARJUN SALGAONKAR            Independent

6              BHAGAWANT SADANAND KAMAT            Independent

 

The main fight is between Congress’ Girish Chodankar and BJP’s Shripad Naik who is the current sitting MP. It’s been a BJP stronghold since 1999 and Naik is the current Union Minister of AYUSH in the Modi government.

The Aam Aadmi Party, which failed to open its innings in the state elections will be represented by Dattatraa Padgaonkar.

Election authorities in Goa have said cash amount, liquor and narcotics worth more than Rs 2.80 crore were seized in the coastal state.
 

The office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), in a statement issued, said Rs 2,31,70,630 in cash was seized, but did not provide details.

The same day liquor worth Rs 28.16 lakhand narcotics valued at Rs 31 lakhs were also seized, the statement.

The total seizure value for April 17 stood at Rs 2.81 crore, it said.

 

 

In 2014, Shripad Yesso Naik rode the Modi wave to defeat Congress’ Ravi S Naik by over one lakh votes getting 58.51% vote share to Congress’ 32.54%.

 

 

Phase 3 on the 2019 Lok Sabha Election will  be held on April 23, 2019 in 115 constituencies across 14 states.
