Normal talks between India-Pakistan couldn't have taken place in Pathankot terror attack shadow: Omar Abdullah

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said normal dialogue between India and Pakistan couldn't have taken place under the shadow of the Pathankot terror attack. "In the shadow of Pathankot, to expect a normal dialogue to take place between the two countries is perhaps like asking too much," Omar said.

He further said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi can't treat Pakistan like any other country, adding that the relationship with the latter is really unstable. "Prime Minister Modi's decision of dropping in at Lahore suddenly was an 'out of the box decision'. Had the Pathankot attack not happened, the Prime Minister's trip to Lahore would have been an unqualified success," he added.

Omar further said that in last ten years, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir has improved. "It hasn't normalized to the extent that we would like it to, but the levels of violence are at a historic low," he added.

On the current tussle between the PDP- BJP over government, he said, "We have no government so to speak in the state. There is an uncertainty that whether the coalition will come together again and re-form the elected government." 

Omar had earlier said Islamabad has to take 'concrete and visible' action with regard to the recent terror strike in Pathankot, Punjab, and India on its parts needs to rectify it. He also welcomed the fact that Pakistan has not denied its involvement in the Pathankot attack.
