Asserting that no one would be spared in the irrigation scam, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday stated that the probe into the scam would lead to the arrest of the last man who had signed the files.

During his first television interview on completion of one year in office, Fadnavis said that there was no question of any political settlement in this regard since this dispensation was not the one which would go in for any kind of settlement. He was interviewed by Zee 24 Taas and dna Editor-in-Chief Dr Uday Nirgudkar along with the editorial team comprising Deepak Bhatuse, Amit Joshi and Shailendra Paranjpe during the special programme 'Rokhthok Fadnavis'.

Fadnavis was responding to Dr Nirgudkar's question that when he was in the Opposition, he had promised time and again that if voted to power his government would put behind bars all the ministers involved in the scams, but when it comes to irrigation scam, the former ministers are not even turning up for the inquiry. Fadnavis said that none of those involved in the irrigation scam will be spared and added that he has already earmarked the place they deserve.

Refuting allegations of violation of code of conduct during his speech at Dombivli, the chief minister categorically stated that he did not announce anything new there. He said that he just gave details of various allocations for Dombivli which were already in public domain, and made no fresh announcements. Fadnavis said that if the state election commission seeks any explanation, he would present his side.

Describing the Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan as the biggest and most important achievement of his government in the last one year, Fadnavis said that under this campaign, which was started six months ago, the additional 24 TMC water storage capacity has been added in a decentralised manner. It would provide added irrigation capacity. Moreover, the capacity addition has been achieved by spending just Rs 1,400 crore and in a matter of six months.

The chief minister said that there has been a public participation to the tune of Rs 300 crore in this campaign and the previous government would have taken more than three-and-a-half years to create 24 TMC storage capacity. He said that his government has achieved it in less than 50 per cent of the previous government's spending without taking into consideration the delays in projects thus escalating prices of all the projects.

Fadnavis said that the biggest failure of his government was that it could not effectively convey to the people of Maharashtra the work done in the last one year.

Making it clear that the state government would not ban Sanatan Sanstha under the pressure of so-called and self-proclaimed secularists, Fadnavis said his government had taken oath of not treating anyone with enmity or favour. He said the Sanatan Sanstha would neither be spared if found guilty nor would it be punished because of pressure from so-called secularists.

(Detailed interview will appear in Friday's edition)
