There was high drama at mobile phone company Oppo’s office in Noida’s Sector 63, where a Chinese national allegedly tore an Indian flag and threw it in the dustbin. Hundreds, including Oppo employees and Vishwa Hindu Parishad members protested outside the office, while the Phase-3 police filed a case against the culprit, reported Hindustan Times.

Over 200 personnel were deployed to control the crowd. The protesters only left after senior officers intervened and promised swift action.

SHO of Phase-3 police station, Umed Singh Yadav said: “We have registered a case and the company has extended its support for the investigation. We have sought the camera footage of the office so that we can check the claim of the employees.”

Oppo has not made an official statement about the incident yet.

Earlier, Amazon faced a barrage of criticism for its role in the sale of products such as doormats and flip-flops with Mahatma Gandhi’s face on them. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had in January threatened to withdraw visas of Amazon officials if the firm failed to make amends. Amazon had assured the Indian government that it had carried out a global audit to ensure such products were not listed on its website.
