The Centre is expected to come out with a reply in the parliament on Friday trashing allegations of destruction of 1.5 lakh files by the union home ministry, including some key files related to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination.

Citing media reports, CPM member P. Rajeev had created uproar in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday by alleging that the destroyed files contained papers relating to Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination and the Cabinet discussions held immediately thereafter. Rajeev also alleged that the Prime Minister had directed the Home Ministry to destroy these files.

Rubbishing allegations as a fig of imagination a senior official said, “We have got replies in negative from all the divisions of the ministry to question if any sensitive or important files have been destroyed during the tenure of the present government. The ministry will bring this on record in the parliament.”
