Prime Minister Narendra Modi may have kept his promise and delivered his shortest Independence day speech in four years, but it has not stopped a Maharashtra lawyer from filing a petition against it.
According to reports, an Aurangabad lawyer has called the 71st Independence Day speech as unconstitutional because the Prime Minister had made 'wrong' reference and called the country 'Hindustan', which finds no place in the Constitution.
In her complaint addressed to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and lodged with MIDC Police Station, advocate Rama Vitthalrao Kale has contended PM Modi referred to India and Bharat as 'Hindustan', several times in his 55-minute long speech from the Red Fort.
According to Kale, Bharat and India are mentioned in the Constitution under Article 1. However, she says that Hindustan is not mentioned in the Constitution anywhere.
The lawyer claims that "disrespectful" reference to India as "Hindustan"  has hurt the feelings of many patriotic people.
Kale also says that as the Prime Minister of this country, it is duty of PM Modi to uphold the Constitution.
She, in fact, wants Maharashtra Chief Minister to file a case of 'treason' and other relevant sections against PM Modi.
