A Congress MP from Goa slammed the state Assembly Speaker's decision against declaring a holiday on Eid tomorrow and also appeared to hit out at Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar over the issue.
Shantaram Naik said the BJP government in Goa had, during its earlier stint in power, cancelled holidays on Good Friday and on October 2, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
"People of Goa are shocked to know that the Speaker of the Assembly in a state ruled by BJP has refused to declare October 16 as Eid holiday (for the House)," he said.
The government has retained Eid as an official holiday but there is no holiday for Goa Assembly, he said.
"Strange ways of the chhota Modi of Goa," Naik said in an apparent reference to Parrikar without naming the Goa CM.
