Even though officials of India and Pakistan on Thursday met to discuss modalities for the Kartarpur Corridor, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj sought Islamabad to take strictest action against terrorism before any bilateral dialogue process can begin between the two countries. She asked Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to exhibit a statesman like approach by handing over Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar to India. "Some people say that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is a statesman. If he is so generous, he should hand over Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Masood Azhar to India," she said, but complained that Islamabad has been misleading the international community over the issue of terrorism and shielding and encouraging terrorism. "Pakistan needs to control the ISI and its army who are bent on destroying the bilateral relations time and again," she said.

Her comments came on a day, when officials of both countries were busy thrashing out modalities for the opening up of Kartarpur Corridor in Punjab. At the meeting also, it was made clear that the meeting does not mean the resumption of any bilateral dialogue between the two countries."Today what we had was a meeting on the issue of the Kartarpur Corridor, with an objective that pilgrims can have easy access to Kartarpur Sahib... This does not mean the resumption of any bilateral dialogue with Pakistan. Our position on the dialogue is very clear," said Deepak Mittal, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.

Swaraj's remarks came hours before the deadline to raise objection to the listing of a proposal to declare Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Azhar as a global terrorist before the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council.

Meanwhile, China on Wednesday blocked the proposal moved by the US, France and the UK, among others.

Terming the UNSC a "non-effective organisation", Swaraj said that it does not reflect today's "geopolitical reality".

"We all know that the UNSC is the non-effective organisation in today's world. The entire world is in turmoil, not just the Middle East, but the organisation is unable to do anything. Because it does not reflect the geopolitical reality."

"India is not a part of the organisation (as a permanent member). India was not even independent at the time of the United Nations formation. So tell me, the kind of organisation which does not reflect today's geopolitical reality will solve the world problems," he added.
