The main Opposition in Bihar, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday accused the Nitish Kumar led NDA government of shielding Union Minister Ashwini Choubey's son Arijit Shashwat, against whom a warrant has been issued for "inciting" communal clashes in Bhagalpur district last week.

"How long Nitish Kumar will shield Union Minister Ashwini Chaubey's son for inciting riots? Can anyone ask Nitish Kumar why he is not able to arrest the son of an influential central minister Ashiwini Choubey's son for inciting riots?

Nitish Kumar would have got him arrested if he was the son of a Backward and Dalit. Nitish ji doesn't have courage to arrest him. Shame!," tweeted Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, Leader of the Opposition in Bihar legislative assembly on Monday.

The Opposition has question why the police "failed to arrest Shashwat despite a warrant, when he was live on Facebook on Sunday evening and there are enough evidences against him being in Patna." "Nitish Kumar should answer how is he (Shashwat) roaming free if there is a warrant issued against him. He has lost the control of the govt. It's is being run from Nagpur. This shows how weak he has become," Tejashwi said.

A police source said a team of Bhagalpur Police was in Patna to arrest Shashwat, though he had not been arrested till the time of filing the report.

A Bhagalpur court issued an arrest warrant on Saturday against Shashwat after an FIR was lodged against him for leading an armed procession of BJP, RSS and Bajrang Dal workers without permission and for allegedly inciting people with communal comments. "The procession passed through a communally sensitive area and the provocative slogans led to a clash which left several injured," a source said.

Shashwat told reporters that the case has been fabricated against him under political pressure. "I have not done anything wrong. I will cooperate with the police if they have any questions for me but why should I surrender," he said. Sources said that Shashwat, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2015 Bihar Vidhan Sabha polls, has moved an anticipatory bail application.
