Former aide of HRD minister Smriti Irani Shilpi Tewari has been able to do what Anupam Kher tried but failed.

It looks like Tewari was able to go to Jammu and Kashmir and enter the NIT Srinagar campus and meet some of the non-local students.

She tweeted a picture of herself with students of NIT Srinagar at the campus. In her tweet she said that she handed a letter of support and the national flag to two students.

Kher too wanted to visit NIT Srinagar to give moral support to the students. But he was detained at the Srinagar airport.

Known to be a staunch BJP supporter, Tewari herself was embroiled in a controversy as she reportedly circulated doctored JNU videos. She was also criticised for campaigning strongly for nationalism during the JNU row.

NIT Srinagar has been at the centre of a controversy since April 1 when clashes broke out between outstation and local students following India's defeat to West Indies in the World Cup T20 semi-final.

The situation worsened on April 5 when outstation students tried to take out a march outside the campus but were stopped by the police, leading to incidents of violence including vandalism by students and lathicharge by police. The students held protests against the police action, prompting the Union HRD ministry to send a team of officials to take defuse the situation.
