Twitterati welcomed the Supreme Court's Friday verdict that upheld the death penalty for four individuals who gang-raped and murdered a physiotherapy intern on December 16, 2012 in New Delhi.
"It's a barbaric crime and it has shaken the society's conscience," Justice R Banumathi told a packed courtroom as the three-judge Supreme Court panel threw out an appeal on behalf of the defendants. "If this case isn't rarest of rare to award death penalty, then which case can fall under it," Banumathi added.
Today is an important day when SC decides on the appeal of #Nirbhaya rape convicts against death penalty. May her soul get peace today

I am generally a non-violent person, but I am happy that the Supreme Court has ordered the convicts of #Nirbhaya case to hang.

Nirbhaya verdict.Justice prevails.Being in a civil society,in this case,"Public Hanging" was needed to set an example for an everyday menace

It was Muhammad Afroze who inserted rod into #Nirbhaya's body. If he was old enough to rape, he's old enough to serve the punishment too.

Those who are "principally against" the #Nirbhaya verdict can offer themselves to be hanged in order to save those rapist murderers.

Problem with 'collective conscience' standard is that one bench decides it is outraged for Nirbhaya, another does not for Bano.

Law is supreme, & should be equal for everyone. SC #Nirbhaya verdict should serve as a hope 4 Bilkis Bano, that all has not been lost yet!

Justice for #Nirbhaya won't be complete till the time the 'juvenile' Mohd Afroz the most brutal one is roaming free.he shud be hanged first.

The brutal crime against the woman had created public furore for a more stringent law to deal with sex crimes against women. The 23-year-old physiotherapy intern was brutally assaulted and raped by six persons on a moving bus in South Delhi and thrown out of the vehicle with her male friend on the night of December 16, 2012. She died days later in a Singapore hospital on December 29, 2012.
