The juvenile convicted of raping and killing a 23-year-old woman in the infamous Nirbhaya case says he fears for his life once he is out of the reform home, Hindustan Times reports. A juvenile at the time of the crime, he is now 20 years of age and will walk free, leaving the correctional facility in 6 months.

The juvenile was one of the six men convicted of gang-raping the woman on December 16, 2012 aboard a moving bus. Since he was just under 18, the juvenile was tried and convicted separately. He was sentenced to only three years in a reform home which is the maximum punishment for a juvenile.

Having spent the last two and half years in the reform home, the man now fears being 'lynched' and does not want to leave its safe confines, the report says.

According to the report, counselors and officers at the facility say that the man has reformed and is a model inmate. He has turned to religion, offering namaz 5 times a day, growing a beard as well as keeping the fast during the period of Ramzan.

From being completely withdrawn at first, the man has now forged a friendship with his roommate at the reform home and become very disciplined. He has also developed a passion for cooking and is actively involved in preparing food at the facility.

Of the five others convicted, one was found dead in jail, allegedly having committed suicide. The other four have been sentenced to death.
