Bringing back memories of the Nirbhaya rape case, a rod was thrust into the private part of a woman after raping her.

The incident took place late on Saturday night at Dhupguri area of Japlaiguri district in West Bengal. The victim aged above 30, was allegedly gagged and dragged about 200 metre from her home to a desolate place where she was gang-raped before an iron rod was inserted into her private part. She was spotted by a cycle van puller early on Sunday morning, who also informed the police.

The victim, who is a mother of three, was taken to a local health centre and from there she was shifted to Jalpaiguri Subdivision Hospital. District police said that based on the statement of the victim, she was raped by her brother-in-law's son Ratanu Munda and two of his friends. ADG (law and order) Anuj Sharma instructed the district police to file a chargesheet within three days. Police sources said prima facie it looked like an act of revenge, resulting from a property feud.

On Sunday morning, police arrested two persons including main accused Ratanu Munda and his friend Parimal Roy. On Monday, they were produced at the local court and got two days' police custody for interrogation. Police sources said that Ratanu had confessed to his crime. Ratanu had been arrested in connection with a rape case in 2011 also.

Hospital sources informed that the bleeding has stopped but the victim is still under supervision at the district mother and child hub. She would be operated on as soon as she is fit enough.

District superintendent of police Amitabha Maiti said that they were likely to take the victim along with the others on Tuesday to place of occurrence for a reconstruction of crime and the chargesheet would subsequently be submitted on Wednesday.
