Nine Congress leaders expelled in Chhattisgarh for 'anti-party' activities

The main opposition Congress in the state has fielded its young face Devendra Yadav for the mayoral post in the Bhilai Municipal Corporation which saw polling on Monday.

Nine Congress leaders, including the incumbent mayor of Bhilai Municipal Corporation, have been expelled from the party for "anti-party" activities in Durg district of Chhattisgarh.

Durg District Congress Committee has expelled nine Congress leaders, including mayor Nirmala Yadav, for six years for working against the party during the ongoing Bhilai Municipal Corporation election, party's state spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi told PTI.

The state Congress committee has received the list of expelled leaders for final approval, he added. The other expelled leaders are Nirmala's husband Vijay Yadav, Brijmohan Singh, Sandeep Nirankari, Rajkumar Deshmukh, Brijesh Rai, Vikky Sharma and Gurmeet Dhanei, he said.
