Nigerian quarantined in Mumbai hospital; Ebola suspected

A 32 year old man who travelled from Nigeria to Mumbai was quarantined after he showed symptoms of the Ebola disease. 

The airport authorities said that the man had arrived via via a connecting Emirates airlines flight and has complained of running nose, high body temperature, body ache and red eyes.

The man was immediately taken to the Jogeshwari trauma centre. Doctors from Sion Hospital has been sent to keep an eye on him. The doctors will send the patient's blood samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune.

A BMC health official said that the suspect is stable and the sputum culture was sent to National Institute of Virology in Pune on Monday. 

Dr Mangala Gomare, head of epidemiology department, BMC who is looking into the matter said, "the patient had fever and running nose complaints. Since he was returning from Nigeria, we had to quarantine him. He is stable and has no fever after his admission in the hospital. We are expecting NIV's report tomorrow after which we will decide our further course of action."

Similar alarm was raised by a resident of Vasai previously, but the health officials had dismissed the case later.
