Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said that he had given a presentation to the industries minister Subhash Desai before the land acquisition process for the Nanar refinery project started and claimed that it is a safe one. He added that NGOs are spreading unnecessary fear of pollution and destruction of agriculture.

State Assembly witnessed three successive adjournments over Nanar Refinery issue on Friday. After the Opposition seeked an immediate cancellation of the project, CM Fadnavis gave a reply in the House on Friday. He said that since the project involved an investment of Rs 3 lakh crores, the state was Maharashtra was interested in continuing the project. He also said that the government had assured to fulfill the local people's demand of being aware of the land's price, which was to be acquired in one month's time. However, the Opposition's protest only started after an NGO interfered.

Fadnavis pointed out that the Jamnagar Refinery has transformed Gujarat's economy and the maximum export of mango is done from the state. He also said that there are no reports of excressive pollution due to the refinery and the proposed refinery on the west coast willd have fourth-generation technology as well as the highest emission control standards. He said that the refinery will be based on a modal of the Singapore coastal refinery and will be a green refinery.

Former leader of the Opposition, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, NCP leader Jayant Patil, Shiv Sena leader Sunil Prabhu and former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan had questioned the Nanar project during the Zero Hour of the Assembly. Vikhe-Patil had said that the Opposition would not allow the House to take up any business unless the government cancelled the project. Former mayor of Mumbai, Sunil Prabhu, said that the villagers have opposed the project and even the Gadgil Committee Report on biodiversity of Sahyadri has cautioned about the ill-effects of the project.
