The BJP's Puducherry unit has welcomed the NDA government's new education policy, saying it is timely and deserves to be appreciated in its entirety. Party's local unit President V Saminathan said in a release that it was mind boggling that managements of private institutions, particularly those run by minorities, were objecting to the new education policy.

Children belonging to poor families are to be provided a 25 per cent reservation quota to get free education, he said, adding the policy paves the way to ensure that equal opportunities are available to the underprivileged sections. Saminathan said the new education policy has several sacrosanct and broader objectives and there could be no second opinion on its purpose. None can stand in the way of its implementation as children of poor families cannot be denied right to education and should get opportunities to come up in life.

He said private players in most of the cases were trying to commercialise education and this would be injurious to the development of the nation.
