The cultural fest, began with its first panel discussion on the topic “Dharmic Capitalism: A new economic model for an emerging world order?”. The discussion had panelists like Gaur Gopal Das, Lord Meghnad Desai, Rajiv Srivastava, and Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Chandra. It was moderated by Shereen Bhan.

Gaur Gopal Das hinted at the worldwide spread of the idea of minimalism in the current scenario and went on to defy it by saying that satisfaction is the greatest enemy of growth. He said that one should be satisfied on the personal front but not on the social front. According to him, he identified three elements of Dharmic Capitalism, namely, passion followed by compassion, earning with integrity, and sensitivity towards external stimuli.

On the contrary, Desai said he believed that Hindu Capitalism was rephrased as Dharmic Capitalism. He further said that the State doesn't create jobs but can create the conditions required for the businesses to flourish which, in turn, would create jobs. He went on to say that the focus should be laid on private ownership instead of public ownership which could bring prosperity to the country and eradicate poverty. He also mentioned that businesses should be kept guilt-free, because capitalism and profit are not bad and are here to stay.

Whereas, RS MP Subhash Chandra showed his firm belief in Dharma. He said Dharma is intrinsic to the human nature. He further added, “Aap dharan kare to Dharam” which translates into “It is your religion only if you accept it.” He also described capitalism as unnatural as per Dharma, as wealth of the top eight people in the world is approximately equal to the accumulated wealth of 3.6 billion people.

Mr Rajeev Srivastava said that without Dharma, any "ism" will fail as Communism failed over a period of time and capitalism which is greed-based is taking more time to fail. He also stated that if Dharma is at the core of any business, then it would prosper more.

The discussion was followed by a question and answer session where the enthusiastic crowd came up with their myriad queries. The session was then concluded by the final remarks of the panelists.

OF RELIGION

The discussion led to ideas such as the absence of dharma can make any ‘ism’ fail. Just the way Communism failed with time, Capitalism too will witness failure
