Last year in August, two passengers were arrested at Pune airport for trying to smuggle out foreign currency worth Rs 1.29 crore by hiding them in hotboxes containing 'upma'.
The man was scheduled to fly to Dubai with hot cases full of upma but he was carrying extra cargo.
During the security check, an immigration officer stopped them on suspicious grounds. The report suggests that the documents he carried were not authentic. So, the immigration officer immediately informed the airport authorities. The documents of the man identified him as Nishant Y and the security officials ordered to check his check-in luggage.
The luggage contained heavy hot cases. The officials found it extremely strange for cases full of upma to be weigh so much. On checking, the foreign currency worth Rs 1.29 crore was recovered by the officials.
