Netaji's grand nephew Chandra Bose today welcomed the setting up of an inter-ministerial committee to look at the possibility of declassification of all files related to the disappearance of the freedom fighter.

"To declassify the files we have been writing to all prime ministers right from Jawaharlal Nehru to Manmohan Singh but none of them ever took any action at all. But we are very happy that Modi has taken action within 24 hours of meeting with my elder brother Surya, and that too when he is on a foreign tour," Bose told PTI.

He said that the move showed that Modi gave top priority to national leaders like Netaji. "We also want that there should be some representation from the Bose family in the committee or they might have some sub-committees under it having historians or Netaji researchers like Anuj Dhar," Bose, also the family's spokesperson, said.

Netaji grandson Abhijit Ray said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the guidance of a sitting judge of Supreme Court should be constituted to investigate the mystery of Netaji's disappearance after August 18, 1945.

The Centre has decided to set up an inter-ministerial committee, headed by Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth, to look at the possibility of declassification of all files related to death or disappearance of Netaji nearly 70 years back.

The issue of Netaji-related files came to the fore last week when a controversy broke out following reports that his family was kept under surveillance by the Intelligence Bureau for 20 years, much of it during the tenure of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
