The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Monday welcomed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)'s decision on net neutrality, saying that it was a message to all the big Telecom Operators that they cannot bully the consumers.

"This is not only our victory. It is also the victory of the youth who have raised this issue on social media. Not only because the TMC was the first to raise this in Parliament, but a lot of people on internet got together. This is not only a message for one person but for all the big Telcos that they cannot be bullies," TMC leader Derek O'Brien told ANI.

He also said that they would do everything to protect right of the free internet.

Meanwhile, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also welcomed the TRAI's ruling, saying that it was a big win for internet users in the country.

"Welcome TRAI's ruling in support of #NetNeutrality. Big win for internet users in India! Congratulations to all those who campaigned tirelessly &fought hard to ensure that our internet remains free &equal for all!" he said in a series of tweets.

In a setback to Facebook's free internet scheme, the TRAI ruled out differential pricing, saying that no company via any offer could charge discriminatory tariff for data on the basis of content effective immediately.
