NEET 2018: CBSE makes Aadhaar mandatory for admission test; J&K, Assam and Meghalaya exempted

The last date for registration is March 9.

The Central Board Of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made Aadhaar mandatory for filling the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-2018) application for admission to MBBS and BDS courses. Only residents of Assam, Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya have been exempted to provide their Aadhaar details for registration which began yesterday.

This comes even as the Supreme Court is hearing a clutch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Aadhaar scheme and the enabling 2016 law. Petitioners have also challenged the move to make Aadhaar mandatory for several services including banking and social security schemes. 

The test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses will be held on May 6.

Non-resident Indians have to submit either their Aadhaar or passport number, the CBSE said in an official notice.  

"For Foreign Nationals, Overseas Citizen of India (OCI’s), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO’s), Passport Number is the mandatory requirement for filling up of the online application of NEET(UG), 2018," it said. 

"At the time of filling application form NEET(UG), 2018, the candidates will have to enter their AADHAAR number, name, date of birth & gender and give their consent to CBSE to validate the information provided by them with the UIDAI’s database," the board said.

In case name, date of birth or gender in the Aadhaar do not match with school records, the candidate will not be able to fill the application form, it said. 

The candidates should immediately get the mismatch in corrected in Aadhaar data or school records, the CBSE has advised. 

Candidates can register online till March 9 till 11:50 pm on official website www.cbseneet.nic.in.

Eligibility: 

* Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRI’s), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI’s), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO’s) & Foreign Nationals are eligible.

* The candidate must have completed age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December, 2018 i.e. the year of his/her admission to the 1st year M.B.B.S./B.D.S. Course.

* The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission in MBBS/BDS seats shall be 25 years as on the date of examination with a relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category and disabled category.

8 The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Bio-technology at the qualifying examination.

Online submission of application forms: February 8 to March 9

Payment of online fee: February 8 to March 10

Date of Test: May 6, 2018
