Congress Party vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday interacted with representatives of rural civic bodies and said local bodies in villages have to be empowered in order to make the political system work

“If we have to change the political system, we have to give power to the local head and people of the local body. Till this is done, the political system will not be able to work properly,” Rahul said while addressing people.

Asking for feedbacks from representatives regarding the drafting of party manifesto, Rahul said, “Earlier, manifestos were used to be drafted behind closed doors. In the same procedure, today the other parties draft their manifestos.

“But we took initiative to draft our manifestos in a new way, and we discussed with all stakeholders about their inputs in our manifesto. We asked what they want in the manifesto. First we asked women, then youth, SC/ST, farmers and so on,” he said

Rahul also said the inputs of these stakeholders will be included in the manifesto and the government, after being elected, will implement these points.
