Nearly 700 J&K students register online for DU courses

Online registration for admission in 60 UG courses in 62 colleges affiliated with the varsity, with around 54,000 seats, began on Monday at 6pm

Despite the political unrest in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), as many as 694 students from the state have registered online for Delhi University's (DU) undergraduate (UG) courses under the Kashmiri Migrant quota.

Online registration for admission in 60 UG courses in 62 colleges affiliated with the varsity, with around 54,000 seats, began on Monday at 6pm. The admission process will continue till June 12.

The varsity has, so far, received 107,802 applications. "Of the total, as many as 84,474 applicants have already completed the personal details section," Officer on Special Duty, Admissions, Ashutosh Bharadwaj said.

Of the total number of applicants, 48,835 are male, 35,609 are female, and 30 are transgender. "The aspirants who have applied for supernumerary categories include 509 students under the Persons with Disabilities category, 694 under the Kashmiri Migrant quota, and 1,061 under the total Children/Widows/Wives (of the Officers and Men of the Armed Forces, including Paramilitary Forces, killed/disabled in action or attributable to duty or recipients of gallantry award) Quota," he said.

BA (H), English, BCom (H), and BA (H) Economics continue to be the most sought-after courses among students. The varsity is scheduled to announce its first cut-off list on June 20.

Aspirants for some subjects, such as Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), Bachelor of Business Administration (Financial Investment Analysis), BA (H) Business Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Multimedia and Mass Communication, and BTech (Information Technology and Mathematical Innovations), have to appear for an entrance test.
