Night life at Connaught Place, the heart of the national capital, might soon become even more happening as NDMC plans to extend the deadline for eateries and bars to 1 am besides providing more security.

The idea – of opening the Connaught Place till 1 am -- came to NDMC last year during its bid to redevelop the area and can be implemented in next few months.

"During the recent 'Fete De La Photo festival', we saw that city comes alive at night. People actually like to enjoy the night life and especially in Connaught Place and that it can be safe. So we thought of taking this initiative," NDMC chairperson Jalaj Srivastava said.

The plan can be extended to other areas such as Khan Market, under the jurisdiction of NDMC.

Those eating or drinking out in these areas will be able to place their orders till 1 am, as opposed to the present 11 pm deadline for eateries and bars in the capital.

The shopkeepers are also set to benefit from the plan as they will be allowed to remain open till 11 pm. At present, they can remain open till 9:30 pm only.

"We are looking at open terrace restaurants and corridors, live performances, people enjoying late night walks and other such things. We want the people to come out, enjoy, and feel good about this place," Srivastava said.

The experience will change the perspective of capital not being safe, he added.

However, the plan has to be chalked out by taking other parties into consideration such as New Delhi Traders Association (NDTA), Delhi Police, and the state government.

The proposal regarding this has to be given by NDTA.
