NCP supremo Sharad Pawar on Friday hinted of reconsidering his decision of not contesting Lok Sabha elections. "Party leaders have urged me to contest upcoming Lok Sabha election. I am not interested but since the party leaders are insisting, I will mull over it," Pawar said on Friday.

Pawar had in 2012 itself announced that he would not be contesting elections and had taken the Rajya Sabha route instead of contesting the 2014 LS polls.

However, the NCP supremo is getting requests from some quarters to reconsider his decision. Speaking about the speculations, Pawar said, "I have already announced that I will not be contesting elections. However, senior party leaders have urged me to reconsider the decision. They told me that all the party leaders follow the policy decisions taken by me but in this case, I should respect their sentiments and contest elections. I have told them that I will think over it and convey my decision to them."

The statement from one of the most senior parliamentarians came after he held a meeting of all the senior NCP leaders at Pune's Baramati hostel on Friday. If he decides to contest Lok Sabha elections, he is likely to contest from Madha constituency in Solapur district. Earlier, in 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Pawar had contested from Madha constituency which was newly formed constituency then and he won the elections. While contesting from Madha, he had left his traditional constituency of Baramati for his daughter Supriya Sule.

Currently, NCP leader Vijaysinh Mohite Patil is the MP from Madha. While speaking to media, Pawar said, "The sitting MP Vijaysinh Mohite Patil also was among the leaders who wished that I should contest from Madha."

Speaking about the Mahagathbandhan, Pawar said the mega-alliance is not taking place at the national level but efforts are being taken to bring anti-BJP parties together at the state level.

WILL BEAT HIM: BJP

If at all Pawar contests from Madha constituency for ensuing Lok Sabha elections, we would defeat him, Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrakant Patil told reporters on Friday
