NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad has moved the Bombay High Court seeking a direction to the Election Commission of India and State Election Commission to carry out revision of the electoral rolls of all the constituencies of Maharashtra.

In a public interest litigation filed which will come up for hearing in due course, he has said that before the next civic elections in 2019 a revision of electoral rolls have to be carried out.

Referring to the missing votes names in the recently concluded BMC elections the plea says “The polls conducted this year were marred by scores of voters could not vote due to various reasons. The fact that the voters' list was defective was vouched by all political parties.”

Awhad in his petition has sought for a committee to be set up which shall conduct a study and then submit suggestions to the Election Commission as to how a flawless electoral roll can be prepared. Around 12 lakh voters missed casting their vote as their names were deleted from the voters list.
