Stating that an alliance formed under the leadership of Nitish Kumar would be more credible than that under Congress' Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Thursday gave his endorsement for an anti-BJP political platform for the next Lok Sabha polls.
"As of today in India, if the Opposition has to come together and provide an alternative, he (Nitish Kumar) is the number one name," he said in an interview with The Economic Times.
The veteran Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief said that it is necessary to bring together all the 'secular' parties under one roof as the ruling BJP had failed to carry out its functions in an effective manner. He substantiated his stand by referring to the Parliament session where Subramanian Swamy spoke in Rajya Sabha, and the proceedings couldn't be conducted thereafter.
Pawar also reaffirmed that the Congress led by Sonia Gandhi would be more effective than a Rahul Gandhi-led party

Pawar also referred to the emergency in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, saying that Congress should have been firm in their reaction to the dismissal of the state governments.
When a comparison was drawn between Nitish Kumar and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Pawar asserted that an alliance under Kumar would be dependable. He said that since Nitish Kumar has years of experience of being the chief minister for three terms as well as a member of union cabinet, he has the exposure and experience to lead.
During the Bihar elections last year, Pawar had rooted for the victory of the Nitish Kumar-Lalu Prasad-led Mahagathbandhan.
Earlier this month, JD(U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, had pronounced that he would strive for forging the 'largest possible unity' against BJP before the 2019 general elections.
The NCP chief further said Bahujan Samajwadi Party supremo Mayawati is presently in a strong position in Uttar Pradesh as per his personal assessment.
